Welcome to History Class!!
As most of you know, history is one of my favorite subjects and I LOVE teaching it! I hope you join me in my interest, activities, discussions, and projects!
Important items to know about Mrs. Miga's history class:
- GENERAL INFO:
- I am available for extra help if you need it during lunch and study hall. It is YOUR responsibility to find me and ask for help.
- I have a mostly paper-free class. Please get comfortable with Word, Powerpoint, email functions, Seesaw, & checking email regularly.
- You are in 7th & 8th grade, expectations for your conduct and work are high:
- You are responsible for all work, due dates, & grades in this class (hw, projects, group work, etc.)
- You are responsible for the atmosphere in this class (class can be super fun, if we make it so)
- DO YOUR OWN WORK, PLEASE! I don't mind when you ask for help from another student, but do not give answers, help them to figure it out.
- This website is very important for you. Save it to your favorites. All notes, projects, and due dates will be here.
- NOTES/DISCUSSIONS/TEXT BOOKS:
- On most days, I will lecture with power points and you will need to take notes. Pay attention, ask focused questions, and add to the discussions.
- There is no text book for this class- all powerpoint notes will be placed on my website after they have been covered in class. You still must take notes during class. All handouts must be kept in your binder or a separate History folder.
- HOMEWORK:
- I do not give nightly homework. Instead, we have check-ins, trivia, pop quizzes, in-class activities, and polls to determine your retention of info. If it seems the class is not paying attention or having difficulty, homework will be given to ensure comprehension.
- Smaller projects or assignments will be assigned occasionally throughout unit.
- YOU keep track of your assignments and their due dates. Turn online assignments in through email or Seesaw (depending on where it was assigned) as soon as you complete it. Even without reminders to turn in work, it is still due the following day. You must send it through email before class begins.
- Homework should always be in your own words, in complete sentences, with correct punctuation & capitalizations, and answered thoroughly. NO EXCEPTIONS.
- PROJECTS:
- No tests in this class.
- Large projects will be given at the end of each unit, rubrics will be provided for each. These might include video projects, skits, artwork, essays, presentations, etc.
- The point of these projects is to UTILIZE the information taught throughout the unit. Show off how much you learned!
- GRADING:
- I take 5-10% off of any assignment for everyday it is late. There is a maximum of 3 days to get the work in or it is a zero.
- The VERY rare times I provide extra credit, it will be on Seesaw.
- You will be graded on participation, effort, and engagement. You will have many activity & discussion opportunities.
- COME TO CLASS PREPARED. This is especially important this year. You will rarely be allowed to go back to your locker to get things you forgot.

Things may look a little different than past years...
Things may look a little different than past years...
- Patience will be very important. We have 3 models of learning this year and it may take a little extra time. Please be patient and helpful.
- Please follow all safety protocols properly (face masks, hand washing, distancing, etc.). Masks will be worn in history class unless we do class outside. This will ensure some level of stress-relief and more comfortability for everyone since this class is discussion-heavy.
- It will be best to have your backpacks with you in class. Please make sure they do not touch other backpacks.
- I may wear extra PPE (Personal Protection Equipment) to class. This is nothing to worry about just an extra precaution to keep us all safe.
- Note-taking will vary this year. In some units, you will be typing notes out. In others, you will be following along and adding to pre-made notes. ALL notes are found on this website.
- For those in distance learning/hybrid:
- Your experience and expectations are the same as those in class. Please raise your hand to be called or to ask an on-task question. Also, please follow along and stay focused. I will do my best to split my attention from in-person to Zoom attendees.
- Please be on time, your schedule is the same as in-person students.
- I would prefer to not keep anyone on mute, unless it is necessary. Please mute yourselves so background noise is not a problem.
- Please wear your headphones while in class.
- Stay with me! I will ask you frequently to raise a hand, show a reaction, or nod your head to make sure you are still "there" and not frozen or daydreaming. I expect the same level of engagement as in-person students.
- Cell phones, TVs, games, pets, other websites, or any other distractions are STRICTLY prohibited.
- Your participation and attention both in-person and in Zoom WILL BE GRADED.
- PLEASE email me or request a Zoom meeting if you need extra help. I will do everything I can to help you. Please put forth the same amount of effort, respect, and trust.
